Bakery and Patisserie Roundup #2: Patisserie Saint Anne, Ole and Steen, Oree, Belle Epoque

Another month, another round of delightful sweet things. The weekend I returned to London after exams, I happened across Patisserie Saint Anne up by Ravenscourt Park. Despite the weathered exterior, the Patisserie had a nice selection of Patisserie and baked goods to choose from. I went for the Feuillantine, consisting of chocolate mousse, ganache and biscuit. It was, quite simply, delicious.

Then I visited the lauded Danish bakery Ole and Steen on Kensington High Street and ho-lee heck, did this hit all the right buttons. The lemon and cardamom swirl I had was the best damn swirl I ever did taste, and the Gateau Marcel was chocolate heaven. I will be returning at my earliest convenience.

On a recommendation from a friend, I checked out Oree, also on Kensington High Street. Bringing the wares of the boulangeries of rural France to Kensington, Oree does a small but exquisite selection of Patisserie and other goods. I went for the Lemon Yuzu Tart (delightful) and the Chocolate Lovers (because I feel like I haven't had enough chocolate yet this month). I hear the matcha and raspberry cake is worth trying, so will be back for that at some point.

After visiting Plaquemine Lock in Angel, I found that it was only a short walk to Belle Epoque, so had to go and sample some of their wares. The eponymous Patisserie was a smooth chocolate offset with crunchy pearls, while the Chocoframboise consisted of a 70% dark chocolate mousse with raspberry cremeux insert. Despite the evident craft of the patisseries, the flavours were somewhat muted.
