Japes

To the best of my knowledge one of the only places in London doing Chicago deep-dish pizza, my brother and I visited Japes prior to our trip to Florence. Not especially on-brand, but pizza is pizza.

We both had the margherita, and what it lacked in area it made up for in density. The marinara sauce was good, but the structural integrity of the pizza left much to be desired. While I liked it well enough, it's fair to say that this isn't authentic Chicago. I've made Chicago deep-dish pizzas before, and know that they should have dough on both the bottom and top. These pizzas did not seem to have any dough on the bottom, resulting in every cut leaving a smear of marinara sauce on the plate.

If you want authentic, you won't get it at Japes. That being said, it still was a fine pizza - just not Chicago.

Value for money? Around £20 for a pizza and glass of wine. Sounds about right.

Would I return? Probably not.
