Mikawa

Another Shepherd's Bush restaurant, and this one when I was hankering for some ramen. Mikawa is a restaurant doing Japanese food on Goldhawk road for - what used to be - very reasonable prices. I had the chicken katsu curry from there when it was £12.90, and it was one of the more authentic katsu curries I've had outside of Japan.

This time, I went for the Mikawa Special Ramen, consiting of the usual pork (which was very tender) and ramen noodles, but with a spicy broth consisting of red chillies, coconut milk and -strangely - okra.

The ramen was very pleasing, if not exactly the flavour profile I'd usually go for (not doing a bone broth results in a broth without much depth of flavour). However, prices across the board have recently gone up from £13 to £16. Quite the mark-up, and really quite a lot for ramen.

So while I thought the ramen was good, I wouldn't say that it is £16 worth of good.

Value for money? Ramen for £16? Ouch.

Would I return? I live close by so I might do when I'm after a specific menu item at short notice. But I wouldn't go out of my way.
