Napoli on the Road

Chiswick - home to the wealthy, a Lord's villa, and now Michele Pascarella's (who won Pizza Maker of the Year 2023 from 50 Top Pizza) pizzeria, Napoli on the Road.

While 50 Kalo by Trafalgar Square might have secured a higher rating than Napoli on the Road on that list (the former 14th globally, the latter 46th), my money is firmly on Napoli on the Road.

I visited the same day as attending The Baring in Islington (see my last review - very much worth a visit in its own right!) and was enthralled by their pizza offerings. The standard margherita and marinaras stand toe-to-toe with The Cheesewick (a cheese-laden pizza fondly named after the pizzeria's location), a pizza with tuna fillets from Cetara, and a white pizza with oven-baked truffle potatoes.

But, remembering the pizzas of my youth, I elected for Ricordi d'Infanzia, a pizza consisting of a slow-cooked Neapolitan beef Ragu, 24-month aged parmigiano reggiano, basil and Evo oil.

At roughly 12 inches in diameter, the pizza did what Neapolitan pizzas do best: pack in a lot of flavour without leaving you full. The dough was light, the crusts airy, and that ragu was blended to utter perfection.

This being Chiswick, the pizza is expensive, but I have no doubts that it is one of the best pizzas in London, if not the best (sorry Crisp).

Update:

I visited Napoli on the Road again in May 2024 when my brother came to visit, and went for the Cheesewick, a pizza with five different cheeses (fior di latte, ricotta, buffalo stracciatella, parmigiano reggiano chips and blue stilton) and some homemade cherry tomato jam. This is really a special pizza, one that you just won't find anything else like in the capital. The sweetness of the jam goes well against the tanginess of the stilton, and the dough is once again extremely soft and pillowy.

Napoli on the Road is the pizzeria that keeps on giving.

Value for money? £17 for a pizza! That's expensive, but it's so very good.

Would I return? I shall and will. Around a 40 minute walk from my flat - nothing when it comes to pizza.
